myDreamExplorer helps schools meet state EDP standards

myDreamExplorer® is all about students and their futures: classes, colleges, jobs and careers. MVU, Microsoft Corp. and the State of Michigan collaborated in the evolution of myDreamExplorer into a powerful, career development site. And now it’s even better.

myDreamExplorer follows a four-step decision making model. In the final stage, students create an electronic Education Development Plan (EDP) that follows the six basic EDP elements approved be the Michigan Department of Career Development as part of the Career Preparation System:

  • Personal information
  • Career assessment results
  • Career pathway goals
  • Plan of action
  • Educational/training goals
  • Parent/family consultation and endorsement
    (for students under 18)
Refining career and education planning
The myDreamExplorer website assists students make career and education decisions, following a four-step plan.
  1. Assess: Refine interests and skills
  2. Explore: Narrow the possibilities
  3. Decide: Make initial career choices
  4. Plan: Set short- and long-term goals

myDreamExplorer includes four unique sites:

  • Student
  • Parent
  • Educator
  • Administrator
These sites contain a variety of resources and tools to provide users with the information to make sound career decisions:

  • Career planning information and activities
  • Career/education/work experience resources
  • Video workshop for parents
  • Subject matter activities correlated to Grade Level Content Expectations
  • EDP, portfolio and resume
  • Online assessments
  • O*NET career briefs
  • Around the clock access from a web-connected computer
Online EDPs
Students can complete and save EDPs on the myDreamExplorer website. myDreamExplorer also aids in meeting or exceeding state guidelines:
  • Exceed the guidelines for the Michigan Career Preparation System
  • Meet Education Yes! requirements for EDPs
  • Aid in meeting Annual Yearly Progress
  • Allow for parental endorsement
