New high school courses
Courses for students who like something different
Some MVS courses are a little off the beaten track and may present more of a challenge for some students. If you’re interested in something different take a look at these courses.
OSCAR (Online Scholars Community Advanced Research) is an innovative online course for high school students who want an opportunity to conduct in-depth research on diverse topics outside of the constraints of a traditional school setting.
The MVS online Chinese courses are audio- and video-based, revolving around coherent stories, using a variety of interactive activities. Chinese courses are taught by highly-qualified instructors and native speakers of Chinese. MVS also offers the two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme Online Mandarin Chinese ab initio course, which is available only to students currently enrolled in IB World Schools
Another unique world language course offering is Japanese. The Japanese course focuses on successful communication through speaking, writing, reading and listening, as well as a thorough grounding in aspects of culture.
Michigan Merit Curriculum
To prepare Michigan’s students for jobs in the 21st century, the State of Michigan has enacted rigorous high school graduation requirements that began with the Class of 2011. Content expectations were developed for each course required for graduation and approved by the State Board of Education. All MVS courses designated as MMC (Michigan Merit Curriculum) were developed to meet these approved expectations.
