Helping students achieve success
This site contains information to assist mentors, parents and schools in helping students stay on task and have a successful MVS experience. Our mutual goal is student success.
Mentors and their role
Mentors play a critical role in student success. Students taking online courses will learn to become more self-directed in their learning. The guides and information here will assist mentors in that process.
Monitoring Student Progress
Observer roles allow mentors and school staff to view student course/gradebook information and monitor student progress/points in the learning management systems (LMS) used by Michigan Virtual School.
These LMSs provide the virtual classroom where students participate in courses, complete work and interact with instructors. They are: Blackboard, Apex and Powerspeak. Parents wishing to monitor student progress/points should log into the system with their student and have the student explain his/her grade book progress and points. Click here for instructions.
Student Success meetings
Student Success meetings provide general information to parents and educators on helping students achieve success in MVS courses. Please email kowen@mivu.org for information about attending a virtual meeting.
Student contracts
Schools are encouraged to create a contract for students taking online courses. The student contract examples linked below were provided by Lakeview (Battle Creek), Romeo, Williamston and Maple Valley high schools.
